Stirling Prize Winner 2011: Zaha Hadid's Evelyn Grace Academy

Zaha Hadid Architect's Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton, South London is the winner of this years RIBA Stirling Prize. As part of this years BBC Culture Show coverage of the event ScanLAB Projects were asked to capture the new building and its site. The completed scan of the as built structure in its surroundings was used throughout the coverage to explain the architectural principles of the design.
The Evelyn Grace Academy has a complex brief, with four schools under a single ‘academy umbrella.’ The 3D scan enabled BBC presenter Tom Dyckhoff to explain the resulting piece of architecture with clarity to an audience experiencing the structure for the first time. The ability to tailor camera paths around the structure long after on site filming was complete allowed simple and clear explanation of this complex piece of architecture.
